A big thank you to Waitangi and her Hinengāwari weavers for weaving and creating our kete for our combined community conference. We have liased with Waitangi (Between Lotima & Yvonne) over the past year to kōrero and wānaga around what type of kete we wanted and the design.
Hinengāwari’s purpose is to create taonga for the many entities in their hapū, opportunities like this allow them to provide revenue for their marae and teach students the art of raranga (weaving) to become the weavers of tomorrow.
The kete (basket) hand made by Hinengāwari Weavers, a marae-based weaving class at Kearoa Marae, Horohoro. Hinengāwari is one of their kaitiaki from their lands. The design is the pātikitiki pattern to execute using two colours and comes from Pani Tihore Collection, Hicks Bay.
The kete made were beautiful and adored by not only the speakers, but our atendees as well. BayTrust again thanks Hinengāwari weavers once again, for the work and consultation put in and delivery.
